Refurbishment of outside facilities

In the 90s the City of Munich built a series of architecturally identical single story wooden pavilions, such as the one in Staudinger Strasse, as childrens' day care centers. Parts of the building and the outdoor facilities were renovated, and a small annex was added to serve as a meeting room.
In the planning stage we based were guided by the locality. The plot is characterized by its proximity to the Ostpark and the beautiful tree population.
The functional areas are arranged in a U shape around the buildings and have been sensitively placed under the umbrella of the tree tops. The new elements largely follow the footprints of the existing paved areas. The new areas speak a clear, soft form language with attractive natural materials.
A WPC-terrace of generous proportions connects the old and the new meeting pavillions and links up the outside with the inside. The access pathways of sawed natural basalt stone paving have a clear shape.
A sizeable netlike play landscape for small children described as 'the flying carpet' and a large sandpit with a podium, a water tap and a series of weather polished boulders are lining the Western Edge, the former location. These surfaces are edged with a wide band of concrete blocks large enough to sit on.
There is also an asphalted cycling path which links all parts of the garden and serves as edging for the lawns. Cradled under the trees are two hammocks for stretching out on or as swings for serveral children.
The vegetable and flower garden next to the terrace allows the children to experiment.
