Refurbishment of a Private Garden
2005 - 2006

Client: W. Family
Architects: Lanz Architekten und Ingenieure BDA, Peter Lanz, Munich

This property, featuring a villa dating to the 60’s, is situated in a southern suburb of Munich. The garden’s character is strongly influenced by the stock of old trees. The open spaces directly adjacent to the villa follow the architecture’s aesthetics by emphasizing the flowing transition between interior and exterior spaces. Individual spaces are formed by a swimming pool with a suspended wooden deck. To the south, a generous dining area is created under the protection of a large beech tree, and a shallow pool complements the overall concept. The existing entrance to the property is narrow and understated, but behind it a clearly defined forecourt opens up a formal access to the building. A water wall demarcates the end of the entrance canopy. Materials and spaces overlay each other in keeping with their function, forming layers reminiscent of the building elements in the building’s façade.
